info on Mark Bassey Jazz Courses

Mark teaches a range of jazz improvisation classes and also offers 1-1 jazz tuition on all instruments.

The various courses all run in discrete blocks and students may sign up for just one block at a time.
There is usually a gap of a few weeks between each block  (recovery period ... )

Jazz Nuts & Bolts 1 - 5

This course is for musicians with little or no experience of improvisation.
Students should have reached a reasonable standard on their instrument – at least a year or so of playing.  Some reading ability is useful too. All pitched instruments and vocalists are welcome but students should be aware that these are not ensemble classes as such – the focus of the sessions is on developing simple techniques and skills to begin improvising. Backing tracks are used to simulate a jazz rhythm section. For this reason the course is not suitable for drums or percussion (unless you want to bring a glockenspiel or a set of vibes . . . )  I can suggest some other opportunities for drummers if you get in touch.

The course comprises 20 two-hour sessions. The 20 sessions are divided into five blocks each of four weeks (with gaps of a few weeks between each block).
The cost is £60 per block (students may sign up for just one block at a time).

Jazz Nuts & Bolts 6 - 8

As with the earlier course all pitched instruments and vocalists are welcome. The sessions explore more advanced techniques and ideas for improvisation, working with carefully designed backing tracks.

The course comprises 12 two-hour sessions. The 12 sessions are divided into three blocks each of four weeks (with gaps of a few weeks between each block).
The cost is £60 per block (students may sign up for just one block at a time).
