Mark Bassey leads this highly entertaining jazz quintet which takes a fresh and occasionally mischievous look at some of the Basie classics. Revisit favourites such as Corner Pocket, Jive At Five and Splanky, beautifully arranged by Bassey to feature his flamboyant trombone alongside the sultry tenor of Simon Savage and the wonderful swinging rhythm section of Terry Seabrook, Dave Whitford and Ron Parry.
Mark Bassey, one of the finest trombone soloists on the UK scene, is just as gifted as an arranger and bandleader. His talent is equalled by his irrepressible showmanship. His excellent quintet play the timeless Basie repertoire, cleverly arranged to mimic the original big band charts and often rewritten with a quirky spin. John Styles, Brighton Jazz Club
